Guiding the Next Generation at the New Trial Lawyers Conference

Attorney Jennifer Porter was delighted to be invited as a presenter at the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association’s recent New Trial Lawyers conference. Together with Allyson Kiitchel, she walked through the essentials of investigating a client’s case, starting with intake and continuing through disbursement. It was a meaningful opportunity to connect with new attorneys, exchange ideas, and be part of the dialogue—made even more special by the beautiful setting at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture.

A Night at the Ballpark

At Jennifer Porter Law, we know that strong teams are built not just in the office, but through shared experiences outside of it. This summer, we headed to Nationals Park for a game between the Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies.

(Thankfully, we didn’t encounter any Phillies fans demanding a ball! 😉)

The weather was sweltering, the Nats lost—but none of that mattered. What we’ll remember most is the laughter, the relaxed conversations, and the chance to spend time together outside our usual routine.

For us, outings like these are more than just a break. They’re an important reminder that:

  • Great teamwork comes from genuine connection
  • Taking time to unwind helps us come back stronger for our clients
  • Celebrating each other matters just as much as celebrating our wins

As a women-led law firm, we’re proud of the culture we’ve built—a culture where collaboration, care, and trust extend far beyond casework. The ballpark gave us a chance to live those values in a fun, lighthearted way.

The Nationals may not have come out on top that night, but our team left the stadium recharged and reminded of what really matters: the people we work alongside every day.

Here’s to more summer memories, strong teamwork, and the joy of building a law firm culture that lasts long after the final inning.

Summer Team Trip: A Day at the Capitol

Every now and then, it’s good to step away from the office, put the case files down, and take a moment to enjoy the people you work with. This summer, our team at Jennifer Porter Law did just that—with a fun and inspiring day trip to Washington, D.C. to tour the U.S. Capitol together.

As a women-led law firm, walking the halls of a place where so many important decisions are made was more than just a sightseeing opportunity—it was a reminder of how far women in law and leadership have come, and how powerful collaboration can be.

We shared laughs, took in the incredible architecture and history, and—true to form—still managed to talk about the law (because some habits die hard!).

More than anything, the trip was about taking a break, connecting as a team, and remembering that behind every document, case, or consultation—we’re real people who care deeply about what we do and who we do it with.

Thanks to the team for making it such a fun and meaningful summer memory!

Here’s to working hard and taking time to breathe. ☀️

Attorney Stephanie Himel-Nelson Featured on WTKR News to Highlight the Importance of Estate Planning

Source:3 WTKR News-

We’re proud to share that our estate planning attorney, Stephanie Himel-Nelson, was recently featured on
WTKR News 3 alongside Danyiele Peterson, a Virginia Beach client she previously worked with to take
control of her future by creating a trust.

In the interview, Ms. Peterson shared why she decided not to wait until retirement to put her estate plan in
place. Her story emphasized a key message we often share with our clients: estate planning isn’t just for
later—it’s for right now.

Together, Stephanie and Ms. Peterson talked about how having a clear, customized estate plan helps
eliminate guesswork, reduce stress for loved ones, and ensure that your wishes are followed—no matter
what life brings.

The segment was part of WTKR’s “In the Community” series, which shines a light on real stories from
Hampton Roads residents making smart, empowered decisions for themselves and their families.

We’re honored to walk alongside clients like Ms. Peterson and thrilled to see her voice uplifted on this
important topic. If you’re ready to make a plan that brings peace of mind, we’re here to help.

What happens when mentorship steps outside the office and into the community? At Jennifer Porter Law, we believe it opens doors—and minds.

Attorney Michelle Chang recently volunteered with the Fairfax Bar Association to lead a group of 8th graders through the courthouse, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how the legal system works. But more importantly, she helped them see the human side of the law—how it touches people’s lives, and how they, too, can be part of it.

We’re proud of Michelle’s commitment to empowering the next generation and making the law more approachable, one conversation at a time.

⛳ Supporting Our Community: Annandale Atoms Golf Tournament

On Monday, June 23, we had the privilege of sponsoring the Annandale Atoms Golf Tournament at Chantilly National Golf and Country Club. This year’s event marked the first time the tournament has been held since 2015—and it came back in full swing with 60 enthusiastic golfers hitting the course!

It was a hot summer day, but the energy was high with contests for longest drive, closest to the pin, and best putt, plus exciting auction items and top team awards. The tournament raised valuable funds for student athletics, and we were proud to be part of it.

At Jennifer Porter Law, we believe in giving back to the community that supports us—and showing up for events like this is just one small way we do that.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make this tournament a success. We’re already looking forward to next year!
