We are excited to announce that Jennifer Porter has been selected for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in the United States. The Best Lawyers organization works in partnership with U.S. News, so many people are familiar with their rankings.
Attorneys are chosen to be included based on their ratings by attorneys in the same practice area and region, so it is a mark of great respect to receive a high enough ranking to make the list. The selection process effectively puts competing lawyers up against each other to find out which lawyers other lawyers would choose. “I’m honored that my colleagues rated my work so highly,” Jennifer said after learning that she had been chosen. “This award really means a great deal because it’s based on peer reviews.”
How the Peer Review Process Works at Best Lawyers
The selection process at Best Lawyers begins with nomination. Attorneys can be nominated by clients, other lawyers, or professionals in related fields but they cannot nominate themselves. Candidates who have been nominated for inclusion in Best Lawyers are then voted on, and voting is limited to attorneys who are considered leaders in their respective fields of practice. Best Lawyers based their methodology on the premise that the quality of the peer review process is directly based on the quality of those who are casting votes.
They designed the selection process to reflect the consensus opinion of leading lawyers regarding the skills and abilities of their peers practicing the same field of law in the same geographic region. Voting attorneys are asked to rate each nominee based on how confident they would feel about referring a case to that candidate. Voters rate each nominee on a scale of one to five. They can also add comments about a nominee.
Nominated attorneys with the highest ratings are selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers. Attorneys recognized in previous years are automatically nominated for inclusion the next year, but they need to receive a sufficiently high ranking to be selected again.
The selection process is designed to rate the abilities of each candidate based on informed opinions of peers who are qualified to evaluate the qualities that make an attorney effective in each particular field. When a voting attorney is asked to rate a nominee they are not familiar with, they are expected to abstain.
A Reputation for Excellence Based on Cooperation from Clients
Being ranked highly by Best Lawyers is just the latest in a series of honors and recognition for Jennifer’s work. Her reputation for excellence is also reflected in her AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, her selection for Super Lawyers listings, and her Avvo rating of 10/10. Jennifer is thoroughly dedicated to achieving success for her clients, and it shows.
“I would like to thank the clients I’ve worked with,” she explains, “because they made this award possible. I would not be able to achieve such effective results for them if they did not cooperate so fully throughout the investigative and legal process. Collaboration is what brings us success.”
